Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky received standing ovations during his speech to the US Congress.
“I want to say thank you to all Americans, to all who value freedom and justice and cherish it as strongly as we Ukrainians do.
I wish that my words of respect and gratitude resonate in every American heart
,” Zelensky launched Wednesday evening, December 21, to the elected officials gathered at the Capitol.
The first head of government of a country at war to speak before the American Congress since Winston Churchill in 1941, Zelensky embodied his character perfectly.
Dressed in his now traditional khaki fatigues, only adorned on the collar with a small crest with the arms of Ukraine, he was welcomed by Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
