Weather chaos in December: No white Christmas – but rain, wind and the risk of flooding

The weather in Germany is becoming milder, but the German Weather Service is also warning of severe weather.

According to experts, the risk of flooding is also increasing.

Munich – December has so far been significantly colder than average in large parts of Germany.

The US weather service NOAA had predicted a mild winter.

Now the weather situation is changing significantly and confirms the NOAA calculations.

In the coming days there will be highs of up to 17, sometimes even 18 degrees.

And it could go on like this, because mild, wet and stormy weather conditions are approaching.

The best-known weather models expect precipitation and a lot of wind in the next ten days, but also milder temperatures for a winter.

A hurricane could even be waiting for us on New Year's Eve, but this forecast is not yet certain.

But what is considered certain by meteorologists: Winter has little chance in the coming days, cold air will not move to us in Germany for the time being.

For other parts of the world, especially North America and Asia, meanwhile, record cold is reported, in parts even record snowfall.

In Europe, on the other hand, the mild counterpart seems to be establishing itself.

Because the temperatures are currently and will be so high in the coming days, December could still be too warm despite its cold start.

Weather expert Dominik Jung told the

portal : "Up until the 4th of Advent it was cold, often with permafrost and now the temperatures are suddenly around 20 degrees higher than five or six days ago." Forecast for the coming days he plenty of wind and a "potential for severe storms" - the risk of flooding is also increasing.

The German Weather Service is already warning of “distinctive weather” for Thursday, especially for southern Germany, and the DWD has declared severe weather warning level 3 for large parts of the Allgäu and southern Baden.

In the west, 13 degrees will already be reached on Thursday, around Christmas the 20 degree mark is not far away.
