The dream of a white Christmas is not over in 2022.

But the weather forecast for Saturday should give romantics a punch in the pit of the stomach.

Munich - Germany has had a wonderful few winter days.

White snowy landscapes and Christmas markets delight children and adults alike.

But the weather in this country is about to turn.

While Monday was still marked by the danger of ice, which caused icy streets and sidewalks in large parts of the republic, the temperatures are now rising and the white splendor will melt away relatively quickly.

Are we getting a white Christmas?

Weather forecasts ruin the dream

Apparently, Christmas falls through the cracks, and there shouldn't be a trace of snow.

Since the beginning of December at the latest, many people have been wondering whether we can expect a white Christmas in 2022.

The trend in this regard has been sober for days, with various meteorologists drawing a negative picture that gives no prospect of snow.

Now that we're just a few days away from Christmas Eve, experts can come up with a fairly accurate weather forecast for the holiday starting Saturday, December 24th.

Alban Burster, for example, explains in the "Germany Trend" that this Christmas in the Federal Republic of Germany another weather phenomenon will shape the picture: "There will be quite a lot of wind or even storms," the meteorologist is convinced.

According to him, the low-pressure areas have been fairly quiet in the course of autumn and winter so far, but from Friday - i.e. one day before Christmas Eve - it will "blow properly".

According to him, this applies in particular to the (south)western part of the country.

Weather forecast for Christmas: Snow on the holidays "not an issue at all"

Burster describes the overall picture as exciting in the next few days: while fairly warm air collects over western and southern Europe, cold air lurks near our northern border from Denmark in southern Scandinavia, which can then also rush to Germany.

So fans of the traditional Christmas have to put up with a mild, stormy and sometimes rainy "merry Christmas" over the holidays, during which there are said to be double-digit temperatures in some regions.

The sad conclusion of the weather expert: "So we can currently say that snow on Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day is not an issue at all."

A white Christmas is an ideal - the reality is usually different

From a purely statistical point of view, the chances of a white Christmas in most local regions are only between 10 and 30 percent anyway.

“A white Christmas is simply an idyllic ideal.

A white festival in Germany has always been the exception,” says Björn Goldhausen, meteorologist at

WetterOnline

.

Instead, we can expect a green Christmas and bad weather this year.

Interestingly, the forecasts differ a little from the second public holiday onwards: With some models, the temperatures continue to rise, with others it is more in the wet and cold area, where sleet and snow showers are spreading again in Germany.
