The Bananafishbones revive the Tölz Christmas tradition.

They made guest appearances in the Kurhaus for three evenings.

Their surprise guest, Pete York, delighted the visitors immensely.

Bad Tölz

- tears in your eyes, quickly get off the stage and immediately among the people.

Yes, you could really feel the relief with which Florian Rein, Sebastian and Peter Horn wanted to embrace the world.

After a two-year pandemic break, the Bananafishbones performed again on Wednesday for their traditional Christmas concert in the Tölzer Kurhaus.

"The first night of the three concerts is very adrenaline-pumping and a bit shaky," admits Rein.

By that he probably means one or the other Versinger, which their audience didn't blame them at all.

“Home games are something special.

This even more,” says the drummer.

No wonder: After all, in times of an - apparently - overcome corona pandemic, nothing can be planned and, not least due to the inflation in the cultural industry, by no means anything is the same as it was before.

After all, tickets were still available before the concert began on December 21st - the fans were hesitant - but then they struck."

The tension and the question: "Will it work out?" are all the greater.

To anticipate the answer: Yes, it has.

A lot.

A little bit more with every song.

Fishbones spa concerts in Tölz: Lots of hits, witty announcements and a world star as a guest

But from the beginning: Florian Rein, Sebastian and Peter Horn started with a real classic.

"Black Mountain" encouraged the audience to clap along.

"Strange Times" gave the last time a name again.

The, well, somewhat torn Kurhaus Christmas tree next to the stage seemed more like a pastiche.

But nothing should now distract from the good-humoured main actors.

With "My brother" the Tölzer trio also succeeded with their brand new song.

The fans, who return to the Kurhaus every year, not least because of Sebastian Horn's witty announcements, also got their money's worth.

The singer and bassist joked about the people of Munich and the snow that melted at Christmas and pondered about the loners in his sock box during "Clue".

"Fortunately that doesn't happen with ski boots, that would be expensive."

Florian Rein jumped back and forth between drums, glockenspiel and marimba phones.

While the band's frontman played bass, danced and sang.

Challenging medley with hits by musicians who died in 2022

With a mix of "Croco tears" and a sophisticated medley, the Fishbones honored artists Jerry Lee Lewis, Irene Cara, Everly Brothers and Ian McDonald, who passed away during the year, in keeping with tradition.

That was too much for a boy from the front row, he allowed himself a nap, which of course gave Sebastian Horn a through ball for the rest of the moderation.

With a lot of physical effort in a cinematic slow-motion gag in the interpretation of the Vangelis Country cover, they made the audience laugh and released them after an hour in a furious medley finale with verve into the break.

And the boy?

He was awake again.

Drummer legend Pete York of the Spencer Davis Group freaks out audiences

They heralded the second half with hits like "I like a lot".

At a Depeche Mode tribute, Rein's daughter Marlene took the stage and played the keyboard on The Cure's "Close to me" with her proud dad.

This finally led to the absolute highlight of the evening and revealed the secret of the covered instrument: Superstar Pete York from the legendary "Spencer Davis Group" sat down behind his drum kit and performed one of the most famous hits of the 70s "Gimme Some Lovin'". for the best - the audience was flabbergasted by the celebrities on stage.

With his ten-minute rousing drum solo, the 80-year-old not only proved why he is one of the drum legends in the world, but also literally freaked out the Kurhaus guests.

They honored the Briton - fully deserved - with loud cheers,

With "Pow wow" all the artists performed one more song together before the Fishbones - visibly impressed themselves - came back alone on stage for the encore with the words "Pete York - Oida!".

"Come to sin" and "Easy Day" emotionally rounded off the first of the three pre-Christmas concert evenings with "Dusty road".

What fireworks – at the latest now, what was missing in the last few years is present.

But who knows, maybe the break was good to experience moments like this with skin and hair again.
