Shahba City Council in As-Suwayda organized today, with the activities of the local community, an afforestation campaign at the northern entrance to the city, and the road bisectors in it.
The campaign, which was held under the title (We Plant to Live), included the planting of about 350 various forest trees of cypress, eucalyptus and pine, which were provided by the Namira Forestry Nursery of the Directorate of Agriculture.
The head of the city council, Jalal Danoun, pointed out to SANA reporter that the campaign came with the aim of emphasizing the importance of planting trees, reducing the phenomenon of encroachment on them, and their role in improving the aesthetic appearance of the city.
A member of the leadership of the Shahba Division of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Magda Saleha, the head of the agricultural committee in it, stated in a similar statement that the event that is held on the occasion of the Tree and Peasant Festivals came with the aim of promoting correct behavior, compensating plant losses, and confirming participatory work among members of society.
One of the participants in the campaign, Anwar Al-Harfoush, pointed out that he volunteered with a group of women to dig and prepare all the places where afforestation took place, based on the need to promote such initiatives, and to call for planting trees instead of encroaching and cutting them down, while Zaher Awad considered his participation in afforestation a duty for him and every citizen. Because it is good for the environment and society.
