As part of the coalition agreements: NIS 8 billion will be invested in Yosh roads | Israel Today

To date, many of the roads have been paved in a problematic manner, without curbs and without a safe area to detour - which has led to serious traffic accidents • As part of the negotiations between religious Zionism and Likud in preparation for the establishment of the government, a five-year plan was agreed upon to improve the infrastructure in Yesh

An unprecedented budget will fund a significant upgrade of the roads in Yish. "Israel Hayom" has learned that as part of the agreement between the religious Zionist party and the Likud, it was decided that at least eight billion shekels will be invested as part of a five-year plan to upgrade the road system in Yish.

This is a huge amount that has not been invested in the Yash for years. Thus, for example, in 2020, the Minister of Transportation at the time, Miri Regev, boasted of allocating a sum of NIS 2.3 billion for the benefit of the roads in the Yash.

It was also decided that, contrary to the situation in the past, the amount will not come as a result of coalition agreements, but will be transferred from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Transportation as a designated budget.

Professionals in the settlement were also involved in the agreement, including members of the Benjamin Council led by Israel Gantz.

Traffic jams miles long

For many years now the roads in Judea and Samaria are not suitable for the size of the population.

There are between two and three million Palestinians and about half a million Israelis in the United States, who move together on roads built for a small number of cars. In recent decades, there has been a significant increase in the number of vehicles traveling on the shared roads, and as a result, huge traffic jams of kilometers are created.

Many of the roads were built in a problematic way - without curbs and without a safe area for overtaking, which leads to serious accidents.

In recent years, certain measures have been taken to make it easier for residents and increase safety.

Among other things, about two billion shekels were invested in upgrading several roads, including parts of Route 60, the road that crosses Yosh from north to south. In addition, several traffic lights were erected at intersections prone to disasters.

Route 60 will be doubled

However, this is still a drop in the ocean, especially in light of the fact that in the last year the outgoing Minister of Transportation Rav Michaeli Maum was not promoted, because "it is a shame to invest in a place that will not ultimately be part of the sovereign State of Israel."

Among the roads that urgently need upgrading is Highway 60, which according to planning as part of the Yosh Transportation Master Plan is supposed to be doubled and become a four-lane road. There is also a desire to double Highway 55 towards the Jordan Valley. There are also plans to pave roads from Gush Etzion to Beit Shemesh and towards the Dead Sea, but the details of which roads will be paved and upgraded have not yet been determined.
