Ouagadougou-Sana
Burkina Faso today declared the United Nations Coordinator in Ouagadougou, Italy, Barbara Manzi "persona non grata" and asked her to leave the country on the same day.
"The resident coordinator of the United Nations is persona non grata on the territory of Burkina Faso, so she was asked to leave today," without giving any official reason for her expulsion from the country, the news agency AFP quoted the Burkina Faso Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.
According to a diplomatic source, the action was caused by the fact that Manzi "obtained approval to withdraw non-essential staff from the United Nations system from Burkina Faso."
The expulsion of the UN envoy comes a few days after Ouagadougou deported two French people who were working for a local company, and the authorities suspect them of being spies.
