Pope Francis has Ukraine "in his heart", but the belligerents no longer listen to him

FOCUS - The sovereign pontiff has spoken no less than 130 times to defend "martyred Ukraine" in ten months of conflict.

It was on December 8, in the Spanish Steps, in Rome.

For the feast of the Immaculate Conception in the Catholic Church, the pope comes to pray each year publicly before a statue of the Virgin Mary.

The pope was on his feet, his knee was a little better, but he broke off and suddenly bent down, unable to hide his sobs any longer:

"I would have liked to bring you the thanks of the Ukrainian people for peace , but instead, I must still bring to you the supplication of the children, of the aged, of the fathers and mothers, of the young people of this tormented land.”

Six days later, on December 14, the pope once again focused on Ukraine by giving - as never before - instructions to Catholics around the world for this Christmas 2022:

"We renew our closeness to the martyred Ukrainian people",

began he improvises.

“Let's lower the level of Christmas spending a bit.
