Ten monkeypox cases registered in Thuringia

After two years of Corona, the outbreak of monkeypox caused uncertainty.
But since the first case in Germany in May, the situation has calmed down.
How is it in Thuringia?
Erfurt – Ten cases have been reported in Thuringia since the monkeypox outbreak in May.
The last case was registered at the end of August, as the Thuringian Ministry of Health announced on request.
All patients have now recovered.
The first monkeypox disease in the state was reported in Jena in June.
According to the ministry, 132 vaccine doses were administered in Thuringia by the end of November.
Monkeypox (Mpox) is a zoonosis, i.e. an infectious disease that can be transmitted from infected animals to humans.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), transmission from person to person is possible, especially in close contact.
Typical symptoms are fever, headache and muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes and exhaustion.
In addition, patients can sometimes develop painful pustules.
Across Germany, 3,676 cases from all 16 federal states have been transmitted to the RKI since May (as of December 20).
The number of reported cases has been declining since August, and since mid-October there have only been case numbers in the single digits.
The RKI estimates the risk for people in Germany to be low.
The Thuringian Ministry of Health agrees with this assessment.
