Atias vs. Finns: Half a Million Dragons | Israel today

2022-12-24T13:24:49.271Z

Doreen Attias' lawsuit against Guy Pines has raised a critical issue, much bigger than another swamp dispute * It's time for everyone to talk about it

At the beginning of the week, the storm raged around a new conflict.

At the center of the conflict: the man who prefers to cover items of this type, Guy Pines, and Israel's official dragon department, Doreen Attias.

Atias claims that she was fired in April 2021 during the corona crisis, according to her without severance pay and cogent rights, "without advance notice, without a legal hearing procedure and without her rights being paid, after about 18 years in which she performed her work with dedication," according to the letter.

Now she demands about half a million shekels in compensation.

Pines, for his part, claims that her claim is devoid of any legal basis, and even accuses her of "good luck."

Sounds simple to you?

Well, it really isn't.

On the "Verdict" Instagram page, they responded to the case as follows: "Even if in the agreement you defined that there is no employment relationship, and even if you called your employee a 'freelancer' or paid him in exchange for invoices - it does not matter. The ruling on the matter establishes clear tests for examining employee and employer relationships - and these are independent in titles and nicknames".

The truth and the verdict will be revealed in court, but it is already possible to determine that this is a much more significant event than this spicy conflict, which will still be talked about a lot.

Communication schools are full of students who study for at least three years.

To fulfill their dream of working on television they will even work for free, and of course - there are those who take advantage of it.

The work may seem glamorous, but in practice it is Sisyphean work, sometimes more significant and sometimes less, and in many cases not rewarding at all.

Thousands of television workers in Israel work as freelancers and for invoices.

They are obliged to be fully available around the clock, and they are not allowed to work for the competitors.

At the bottom of the pyramid there are many production assistants and investigators, who work a lot and get paid little, and that's before we even mentioned the terms of payment - in most cases a current plus 60, or God knows how much.

Employees who come to the internship do not receive any compensation.

Needless to say, these are conditions that are incompatible with life in Tel Aviv, one of the most expensive cities in the world, where most of the production houses and hosts of the various channels are located.

As you progress through the ranks, so does the salary.

But even in this case, most workers are not entitled to pensions, funds, or even compensation.

Atias' lawsuit blew the fuse this week for many workers in the industry, who dedicated years of their lives and came away with nothing.

How they like to say in tragic events: "Today it's her, tomorrow it's you", and it's so true.

This is exactly the time for all sucker freelancers, who work in television, media and in general, to fight and demand the rights they deserve.

Don't find yourself demanding half a million shekels after 18 years of work.
