Today (24th) a jockey fell off a horse at Sha Tin Racecourse.
At 3:00 p.m., in the 5th mud race at Sha Tin Racecourse, 15 seconds after the horses came out of the gate, No. 6 "Quick Pace" suddenly fell down, and the 42-year-old foreign jockey Bowen fell off the horse immediately.
The Jockey Club announced that Race 5 will be void and bets will be refunded.
Today’s Christmas Eve, Sha Tin Racecourse will hold ten grass-mud mixed Japanese horse races, the fifth of which is Class 4’s 1,650-meter mud race.
The 42-year-old jockey, Australian, has won the Sydney champion jockey for four times and has won more than 100 first-class races so far.
In Hong Kong, he won the BMW Hong Kong Derby twice, and won the Queen's Cup, Hong Kong Gold Cup and Champions and Chater Cup with "Moon Thousand Miles".
He also won the Longines International Jockeys Championship in 2016.
Bowen was born into a racing family in Dunedoo, a suburb of New South Wales. His grandfather and father were both amateur jockeys.
Bowen has been riding horses on the ranch since he was a child, and began riding in country shows and picnic events when he was about 15 years old.
He also plays polo and participates in rodeos.
He left school in 1997 to join the ranks of apprentice jockeys. He learned riding from Bathurst trainer Leanne Aspros, and then studied with New South Wales master trainer Quinton, graduating in Sydney under his guidance.
In his riding career, Bowen has partnered with such good horses as "Win Si Fairy", "Perfect", Samantha Miss, "Moon Thousand Miles" and "Great Junyi", and has won many successes, and was included in the Australian Horse Racing in 2019 Hall of Fame.
Bowen once partnered with the Australian horse queen "Cloud Fairy" to create an impressive record.
"Winsi Fairy" has played 43 times in Australia and won 37 championships. Among them, Bowen has partnered with it to win 25 Group 1 races, including capturing Cox's Shield in Moonee Valley 4 times.
