The Advent senior afternoon at Café Otthof in Eurasburg was very popular.

Eurasburg – Happy Christmas spirit with coffee and cake: This year, around a dozen senior citizens received early presents at Café Otthof in the Eurasburg district of Faistenberg.

Its owner, Rosi Spindler, and Andrea Bauer from the Charlottenstern Senior Citizens' Assistance Center came up with the idea for the meeting.

"We didn't want to spend any money on Christmas greeting cards and gifts, but instead wanted to do a fundraising campaign," explains Rosi Spindler.

Older people, especially those "who don't usually dare or don't come out," were invited to a cozy Advent afternoon.

Although there were a few cancellations at short notice due to illness, this did not dampen the good mood.

At the tables, the visitors chatted animatedly and laughed with each other while they were served home-made poppy seed and eggnog cake as well as chocolate raspberry and apple speculoos cake.

There were surprise packages up for grabs in a raffle.

The organizers collected the gifts – including hand creams, notebooks, soap, fruit and small quark stollen – with the help of various sponsors from the region, such as the Lindenapotheke in Königsdorf, Frucht Feldbrach, Speckerbäck in Bad Heilbrunn, Rio Lamas and the Raiffeisenbank Beuerberg-Eurasburg.

There will probably be a rerun in 2023

"It was a first attempt.

If it proves successful, we would like to do it again next year and maybe other events of this kind in the summer," says Andrea Bauer.

"We are happy when we get tips from people who we can make happy with them."

By the way: Those who had registered for the seniors' afternoon and were unable to come to the cozy get-together at short notice will have the Christmas bags, which everyone got at the end of the event, brought straight home.
