Iran's Supreme Court has ordered a new trial for a Kurdish rapper, the court announced on Saturday.

He was facing the death penalty for his involvement in protests following the death of Mahsa Amini.

Iran has been rocked by protests sparked by the September 16 death of this 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, who died after she was arrested by vice squad for violating the Islamic Republic's strict dress code.

The authorities, who denounce "riots", arrested thousands of people and sentenced a dozen of them to death for their involvement in this protest movement.

Mohammad Ghobadlou was accused of "having attacked police officers (...) resulting in the death of one of them".

Saman Seydi was accused of "moharebeh", which means "war against God", according to Mizan Online.

Human rights groups abroad had claimed the two Iranians had been sentenced to death, saying Saman Seydi was accused of firing a pistol into the air three times during a protest.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court already ordered a new trial for Mahan Sadrat, who was sentenced to death for pulling out a knife during protests, according to the official Irna news agency.

Iranian justice has so far sentenced 11 people to death and executed two in connection with the protests.

Iranian officials say hundreds of people were killed in the "riots", including dozens of members of the security forces.
