In the pre-Christmas period, the Münchner Merkur opened a little Advent door every day under the motto "Glimmers of Light in Advent".

Today: the Christmas tree on the church square in Ismaning.

Ismaning – The Christmas tree has a 500-year tradition in Europe.

According to custom, it actually shines for the first time on Christmas Eve - that's what the Advent wreath candles are for before that - but the trees are just too beautiful to look at not to light up many a living room and town center in December.

This is also the case in Ismaning.

From the first weekend in Advent to the weekend after Epiphany, the Christmas tree lights up the church square here.

Setting up is an integral part of the parish Christmas preparations in Ismaning.

For many years, the trees have come from Ismaningen's home gardens, community workers then cut them down, transport them, set them up and then decorate them festively.

"The colleagues from the building yard and horticulture spent a morning felling and setting up," explains Christa Scharl, press spokeswoman for the community.

This year, the Voith family donated the beautifully grown, ten meter high Serbian spruce.

The approximately 35-year-old conifer has seen a lot.

100 percent green electricity

The tree was enthroned in the center of the Ismaninger church square for the entire pre-Christmas period and attracted everyone's attention.

The green needle dress is adorned with 1500 LED lights.

The chain of lights is stored at the municipal building yard all year round and gathers dust - until it is used at the end of November.

With the right distance, the building yard employees attach the lamps to the tree for a whole morning.

The lifting platform always moves a little further down.

The goal is a beautiful ray of light.

Then the test.

electricity is running.

The 1500 lights illuminate the Christmas tree and the church square.

The Christmas lights in Ismaning are supplied with 100 percent green electricity from the Ismaning GmbH power supply.

The Christmas tree lights up after dark until dawn.

Tree wanted for 2023

In the weeks of Advent, the sight of the Christmas tree accompanied many believers on their way to the service.

It framed the Christmas market and the performance of the Passau spirits from hell.

And of course, every walker was allowed to visit the Christmas tree in order to feel the Christmas spirit in the stress of Advent.

The municipality of Ismaning does not yet have a tree for next year.

"We are happy when we get a tree from the Ismaningers," says press spokeswoman Scharl.
