While the Ukrainians are going to celebrate their first Christmas at war, 70% of French people favor a diplomatic solution to this conflict which has lasted for ten months, according to an Ifop poll, published this Saturday, December 24 by the Sunday newspaper.
If they are not in favor of the immediate cessation of arms deliveries by France, the citizens questioned prefer the use of negotiation to military pursuit until the Ukrainian victory ensues.
This opinion is shared by 69% of the voters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, 77% those of Marine Le Pen and 88% those of Eric Zemmour.
On the contrary, the least inclined to negotiation and favorable to the continuation of the military conflict are the Socialists and the Greens.

"
This idea that the attacked country should end up beating the aggressor country at all costs is not a majority
", analyzes in the JDD Frédéric Dabi, director of Ifop.
Women and young people, for their part, overwhelmingly want to see negotiation prevail over armed conflict.
Another lesson from the survey is that the French remain very concerned about the conflict on Europe's borders: 83% of them feel worried.
A figure, however, lower than the survey carried out on March 1, 2022 (92% of French people said they were worried).
The impossibility of seeing an end to it is an element that contributes to anxiety.
Nearly half of the French have no idea of a possible armistice date.
Only one citizen in five imagines it before 2024. “
Public opinion has largely internalized that the war was going to last and that 2023 would still be tense on all fronts
,” concludes Frédéric Dabi.
