The rumor of a new wave of mobilization is circulating, following the announcement by the Russian Minister of Defense to increase the number of the army.

Moscow has banned the media under its control from reporting on a possible new wave of mobilization, according to the

Moscow Times

, citing an inside source.

This rumor has been going around for several weeks but has grown since Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said he wanted to increase the army's manpower by 350,000 men.

An order would have been transmitted to the media under the control of the Kremlin not to publish anything on the subject, including information coming from the Russian Parliament.

Before that, we could write about the current mobilization, and about possible scenarios and forecasts.

Now all forecasts are stopped.

The request [from the authorities] says that it is impossible to talk about it, even if the statement was made by a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation or a senator

350,000 more men?

The mobilization began on September 21 in Russia, under the rule of the Russian Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, who announced its completion at the end of October.

But Vladimir Putin never signed the decree officially ending this mobilization.

This first wave of mobilizations enabled the Russian army to enlist 300,000 reservists.

US Chief of Staff Mark Milley said last month that around 100,000 Russian soldiers had been killed or injured since the start of the conflict.

Announcement possible in January

During a meeting with senior army officers on December 21, Sergei Choigou declared that he wanted to increase the number of army personnel from the current 1.15 million to 1.5 million.

He also mentioned the possibility of changing the age of compulsory military service from 21 to 30 years, against 18 to 27 years currently.

A massive Russian military capacity building project that Vladimir Putin supports.

At the military council, the plans of the Ministry of Defense to advance in Ukraine were announced.

This is why the mobilized were trained.

But by the summer, replenishment will be needed, the Ministry of Defense will need new soldiers.

To prepare them, it will take three to four months.

So a new wave of mobilization could be announced in about a month – that is in January

,” the director of the human rights organization “Citizen” told BBC News.
