In Lacco Ameno, on the island of Ischia, around 9 pm yesterday a large boulder weighing several tons detached itself from a rocky ridge and ended up in the road at the beginning of via Montevico, a few meters away from the center of Lacco Ameno, damaging a parked scooter.
Following the fall of the heavy block of stone and the checks carried out by the municipal technicians, an evacuation order was issued for 9 families who live below the ridge: 25 people had to leave their homes and some of them were accommodated in the hotels they are already hosting the displaced while they have spent the night with relatives or friends, while for two other elderly people with walking difficulties it will be decided today how to transfer them.
The Legnini landslide emergency police station was involved in the matter and the mayor of Lacco Ameno Pascale asked him to monitor the entire ridge which, in the past, had not been affected by hydrogeological instability phenomena.
