Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed that the Sino-Russian relations are strong and solid, and that the political and strategic mutual trust between the two countries has been greatly strengthened during the current year.
In a speech delivered at a symposium on Chinese diplomacy published on the official website of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi said: “During the current year, China and Russia have been unwaveringly supporting each other in protecting their original interests, and the political and strategic trust between us has been further strengthened, as well as during the year 2022.” By deepening the relations of good neighborliness and friendship, and the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries has become “more mature and stable.”
Wang stressed that the relations between the two countries are not directed against a third country, and are based on the principles of non-alignment and non-confrontation, adding: "These relations are free from interference or attempts to sow differences between countries, and are immune to changes in the international situation."
Wang said that Russia and China are rapidly approaching the goal of raising bilateral trade exchange to $200 billion annually, referring to the implementation of large joint investment projects and the expansion of financial operations in national currencies.
In a related context, Wang stressed that Sino-US relations faced serious difficulties during 2022, and China resolutely responded to provocations and pressure from the United States.
Wang said, "The complications in bilateral relations arose due to the United States continuing to consider China as its main competitor, and its involvement in a policy of containment, pressure and blatant provocation against China," stressing that Beijing responded by taking decisive measures to confront power politics.
Wang called on the United States to change its course, adhere to an objective and rational view of China, pursue a positive and pragmatic policy towards his country, and lay a solid foundation for the stable development of China-US relations.
