Eight people were killed and dozens injured when a gas tanker exploded under a bridge in the South African capital, Johannesburg.
Reuters quoted a spokesman for the emergency services in South Africa, William Ntlady, as saying: "The gas tanker exploded under a low-rise bridge, which led to a fire, killing eight people and injuring dozens."
He added: The explosion caused damage to the Tambo Memorial Hospital, destroyed two houses and several cars, and injured some passers-by, indicating that investigations are still underway to ascertain the circumstances of the accident.
