Putin's statement comes after earlier today, sirens warning of an airstrike were heard in Ukraine.
However, no new Russian attack was reported.
Unverified reports on social networks in Ukraine speculated that the sirens were activated after Russian planes flew over Belarus, and that upon hearing the warning those planes returned to Russian territory.
The spokesman of the Air Force of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihanat, said today that Russian military planes fly over the territory of Ukraine "almost around the clock".
"We have increased readiness - everything that takes off must be under our control," said the Air Force spokesman.
