Netanyahu aims to satisfy his government on Thursday, but left the task of dividing the roles to the last minute, and the future of most members of his party is in the dark. The MKs are mainly fighting for the position of the speaker of the Knesset and the foreign affairs veteran - and in Likud they estimate that even the disappointed will not prevent the formation of the government

While Prime Minister-designate Binyamin Netanyahu aims to inaugurate his sixth government this Thursday, the overwhelming majority of his party members still have no idea what role they are expected to have in it.

Netanyahu, as usual, left the task of distributing the positions in Likud to the last minute, and he is expected to start the round of talks with the future MKs and ministers only two or three days before the inauguration, which can still be postponed until the following Monday. Until then, the tension in the party is rising, and the internal battles The high-ranking and significant cases will reach a peak.

Netanyahu appointed a generous case manager for the government - a minister for every two members of the Knesset, and after the end of the coalition division, he still has about 18 positions in the government left to divide, along with senior positions in the Knesset. His political challenge is not quantitative, but qualitative, and the gap Among the high expectations of some of Likud's senior officials compared to the offices he has left to divide, some of them are divided and split into pieces at the end of the coalition negotiations.

The Likud chairman held a round of preliminary talks at the beginning of the month with the members of the faction, in which he heard their expectations for placements, but postponed the distribution of the cases until the preliminary legislation, which the partners in the coalition demanded before the formation of the government, was completed, in order to minimize the potential damage of those who left disappointed. Likud estimates that even One of the disillusioned MKs will not jeopardize the formation of the government, but Netanyahu will try to dismantle mines and power centers as a first priority.

Of all the MKs of the Likud, only two have already been marked with a high level of certainty for their positions: Yariv Levin is expected to be the Minister of Justice and Yoav Galant will be the Minister of Defense. For the position of Foreign Minister, Netanyahu wants to appoint his confidant, former ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer. He is looking for ways Creativity to share the position with one of the Likud members, either in rotation or in the division of powers and areas of operation, in order to avoid party unrest over handing over the top portfolio to a close associate, who was not elected in the primaries.

The leading Likud candidates at the moment for the position of foreign minister alongside him are Amir Ohana and Israel Katz, who demanded to return to the office he had already held in the past.

Ohana is closer to Netanyahu and even ranked higher than Katz in the recent primaries, but the latter has internal power in the party and faction that Netanyahu aims to neutralize - and especially his alliance with Dodi Amsalem and David Bitan, which can be a bitter and vocal opposition.

Netanyahu will have to decide whether to please Katz, in order to neutralize his alliance with Dodi Amsalem and David Bitan, and to appoint Ohana as speaker of the Knesset.

The position of speaker of the Knesset is one of the most sought-after positions in the party, and Netanyahu postponed the decision regarding him until the last minute when he appointed Levin for a temporary chairman. Ofir Akunis, Yoav Kish and Danny Danon asked or demanded to accept it - and David Amsalem even publicly stated that if he does not accept the justice portfolio or the chairmanship of the Knesset, he will remain out of the government.

Netanyahu hopes to convince him through one of the Likud's other portfolios, economy or transportation, to join anyway, so far without apparent success.

Another mini-battle is taking place over the transportation portfolio, which is requested by both Miri Regev and Eli Cohen, who prefer to receive it over the Ministry of Education, which as part of the coalition negotiations had some of its powers cut and transferred to ultra-orthodox control.

While none of the Likudniks is currently interested in the education portfolio, there is a competition for the Ministry of Economy between Shlomo Karai and other MKs, and for the Ministry of Energy, which is led by Avi Dichter but also polished by Nir Barkat. Other portfolios that the Likud has are communications, which Netanyahu apparently designates to Yoav Kish Agriculture - which Amichai Shikli wants; Tourism, requested by Haim Katz;

culture and sports, which is marked by Miki Zohar;

Environmental protection - requested by Gila Gamliel, but Netanyahu is considering giving it to someone else.

And also: diasporas, regional cooperation, intelligence, science, and social equality - even though a significant part of the ministry's powers and authorities have already been divided in the coalition negotiations.

It is possible that Netanyahu will also decide to re-establish the Ministry of Strategic Affairs, which was closed and merged into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the previous government.

To some of the new and younger Likudniks, he will also offer deputy ministers, such as Boaz Bismuth, who is apparently destined to be deputy foreign minister, and will also offer ambassador positions abroad. In the Knesset, he will appoint the chairman of the coalition, who will most likely be Ofir Katz or David Bitan, who is marked as Head of the Economic Committee; Chairman of the Knesset Committee, and heads of other committees.

Likud officials estimate that Yuli Edelstein may be appointed Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Edelstein, who has previously served as Speaker of the Knesset and Minister of Health, was only offered relatively junior portfolios in the government, and it is estimated that he would prefer not to join the government under these conditions, but would agree to head it.
