The excavation of the green line of the light rail is underway: this morning (Sunday) the excavation of the tunnel of the green line began by the digging machine (TBM) 'Golda', at the Levinsky site in Tel Aviv.
The event was celebrated in a festive launch ceremony in the presence of the CEO of NTA, Haim Glick, Deputy CEO of Ko Yerok, Anat Toker, and the Chinese Ambassador to Israel, Mr. Chi Ran.
The digging machine 'Golda' is also the one that dug the red route of the light rail.
It is named after the fourth Prime Minister of Israel, Golda Meir.
During the excavation, 3 TBM machines ("moles") will work on mining 4.5 kilometers of the Green Line route.

The green line of the light rail connects Holon and Rishon Lezion in the south, through Tel Aviv to Herzliya in the north.
The length of the line is 39 km, of which 4.5 km are underground, with 62 stations, of which four are underground.
The CEO of NTA, Haim Glick, commented on the start of mining: "The machine that works 24 hours a day, throughout the year, is accurate and should give us the two tunnels that will be opened from here to Rokh. The key element for us is to create complete security for the environment - no cracks, safe work , constant monitoring and the use of tens of thousands of sensors. The tunnel will be excavated along a route 250 meters above the Red Line tunnel, a big challenge since the train operates in the tunnel. This is a very significant engineering challenge."

Regarding the Green Line, Anat Toker added: "The fact that we are making progress here reflects real progress in the opening of the line on time. It is a 39-kilometer line, with most of the sections above ground, a line with many bridges, which will connect Rishon Lezion and Holon in the south, through Ibn Gvirol to 2 very significant employment centers, Kiryat Atidim and Herzliya Pituach. We are currently preparing for two and a half years of work on the tunnels."
In the meantime, the "Metro Israel" conference of urban transportation routes (NTA) was held last Thursday. During it, it was announced that the national infrastructure project is only expected to be partially operational in 2034, and that its full planned operation is expected only in 2037. During the event, keys to the project's success were presented , the stages of execution and the expected schedules.
