2022-12-25T08:01:07.788Z

On Christmas morning, alarms sounded all over Ukraine. Media in the country reported that the alerts were apparently activated following Russian planes arriving in Belarus. Yesterday, Putin called the invasion "war" for the first time

Air raid alarms were heard this morning (Sunday) all over Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian media, the alarms were apparently caused by Russian planes arriving in Belarus.

Yesterday, a senior official in Ukraine called for the "destroy" of factories in Iran used for the production of drones and missiles and to arrest their suppliers. Kyiv accused Tehran of intending to supply weapons to Moscow, in addition to the suicide drones that the Russian military has been using against civilian targets in Ukraine since September.

Iran claims that the drones were supplied before the war, and denies that it is involved in the conflict.

"Iran is blatantly humiliating the institution of international sanctions," wrote on Twitter Mykhailo Podoliak, one of the senior advisers of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and called for the destruction of Iranian weapons factories in response.

The head of Ukraine's intelligence services said yesterday that Russia has already launched about 540 Shah-136 model drones against military targets and energy infrastructure in Ukraine.

In addition to these drones, which explode on target, Ukraine and the West warn that Iran may supply Russia with ballistic missiles in light of the depletion its reserves.

Washington said on Thursday that the Wagner Force, a private mercenary militia led by an ally of Vladimir Putin, had received its first arms shipment from North Korea.

Pyongyang denied it.

Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin used the word "war" to refer to the conflict in Ukraine.

This is the time, in the ten months since the war began, that he deviated from his carefully crafted description of the invasion of Moscow as a "special military operation".

"Our goal is not to turn the flywheel of the military conflict, but on the contrary, to end this war," Putin told reporters in Moscow, after attending a State Council meeting on youth policy.

"We have been and will continue to strive for this," he added.
