Located in the southwest of the Pacific Ocean, Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands which enjoys a tropical climate, punctuated by two seasons.
The wet season extends from November to April, it is characterized by high temperatures, frequent rainfall and a risk of cyclones.
Then, the dry season, from May to October, has milder temperatures and sunny days.

When to go to Espiritu Santo and the northern islands of Vanuatu?
The largest island in Vanuatu, Espiritu Santo is still preserved from mass tourism and will delight lovers of nature and scuba diving.

The northern islands are best visited from July to September, i.e. the winter period.
During this period, the average temperature is 27°C.
Rains are frequent throughout the year, but particularly from January to May.
Espiritu Santo, the largest island in the archipelago, experiences a maximum of 29°C during the dry season.
Still preserved from mass tourism, it is a real paradise for nature lovers.
Luganville, the second largest city in Vanuatu, is very lively with its markets and cafes.
Port-Olry is a small, welcoming fishing village, where you can taste fish and familiarize yourself with the local culture.
Lonnoc Beach and Champagne Beach are two immaculate sandy beaches, bordered by lush vegetation.
Not far away, the Blue Holes, natural swimming pools, are the
one of the island's major attractions, along with scuba diving at Million Dollar Point.
As well as being home to magnificent marine flora and fauna, Espiritu Santo is famous for two shipwrecks from World War II lying in its waters.
In the far north, Banks and Torres Islands are very peaceful, with an average temperature of 28°C.
They will give you the impression of being cut off from the world, in a wild and authentic nature.
The Sasar waterfalls, the Yeyenwu caves as well as the Ureparapara and Garet volcanoes are marvels to discover.
Not far away, Malekula is an island off the beaten track, which will delight hikers with its forest and waterfalls.

When to go to Efate and the central islands of Vanuatu?

If the temperatures are pleasant all year round in the central islands, with an average of 28°C, it is better to avoid the rainy period, from January to March.
Essential to visit, ideally from May to October, the island of Efate is the most populated of the archipelago.
This small tropical paradise hosts the capital, Port-Vila, a bustling cosmopolitan and multicultural city.
Stroll the alleys of the open market, discover the local culture at the Vanuatu Kaljoral Senta, the cultural center of Vanuatu, and at the National Museum of Vanuatu.
The island can also be visited for the caves of Siviri, the waterfalls of Mele and the blue lagoon where you can swim, without forgetting the sublime Eton Beach, where the river meets the sea.
Not far away, Hideaway Island is a place dedicated to diving and snorkeling.
This small island with fine sandy beaches is surrounded by turquoise water at 27°C, where thousands of fish live.
50 meters offshore, there is also the only underwater post office in the world.

When to go to Mount Yasur and the southern islands of Vanuatu?
On the Pacific Ring of Fire, Mount Yasur rises to 365 meters.
You can easily climb it with or without a guide.

In the islands in the south of the archipelago, temperatures cool down very slightly, with an annual average of 25°C.
Avoid the rainy season, and favor the months of April to December.
August is the coldest month, with a minimum of 18°C and a maximum of 25°C.
Thrill-seekers will particularly appreciate Tanna Island, which offers a whole range of activities: mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, fishing and even snorkeling.
But the island's must-see is undoubtedly its Mount Yasur, a volcano located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, which culminates at 365 meters.
Very accessible by car, you can easily climb it, until you discover fumaroles and lava at the top.
Not far away, take a trip to Shark Bay,
To the south of Aneityum Island, Mystery Island offers crystal clear waters, ideal for indulging in sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and snorkeling during the summer months.
Thanks to the still preserved character of the island, you will discover an underwater world made up of turtles, barracudas, parrotfish, clown fish, rays and multicolored corals.
