Josef Sedlmair Sr.'s Christmas tree sale is known far beyond the borders of the Munich district.

Now the popular farmer has died.

Blindham - These days, Josef Sedlmair Sr. was usually always to be found at the farm in Blindham.

With his traditional hat, green rainproof jacket, often orange-colored gloves and his tall build, he was hard to miss.

Sedlmair started the Christmas tree business 38 years ago and it has always fulfilled him.

Now the "Blindhamer Sepp" has died at the age of 80.

Josef Sedlmair: It was always important to him to be there for others

Forestry and agriculture had been put into Sedlmair's cradle.

His Uncle Bernhard came to Blindham just after the Second World War and was a farmer and hunter at heart.

It was no different with Josef Sedlmair senior.

The great estate on Blindham Rise was his life.

In addition to family and farm, it was always important to the deceased to be there for others.

“You could ask Sepp anything and always received advice and help.

He helped everyone he could help," says Max Demmel, chairman of the traditional costume association.

As a founding member of the savings association SC 23, Josef Sedlmair was not only vice chairman for decades, but also a welcome guest at the regulars’ tables.

Ratchet and sociability were not to be missed for him.

He also assumed responsibility for the old municipality of Helfendorf at the Helfendorf water supply association, which he chaired between 1981 and 2007.

For Josef Sedlmair it was a matter of course that the best drinking water was always available in the entire supply area, with excellent quality and always affordable.

Active in the municipal council for his home town

Sedlmair was close to home, pragmatic and always looking for a balance.

In 1990 he became a member of the Ayinger municipal council and held this honorary post for the CSU for 18 years.

His party would have liked to see him on the electoral list again, but he wanted to resign of his own free will.

Mayor Peter Wagner visited his party friend on the occasion of his 80th birthday, this year in August.

Politics and world events were very important to Sedlmair.

After all, he was involved in numerous decisions for the community of Aying, such as the construction of the fire station in Großhelfendorf, waste and garbage disposal in the community and the decision to build a senior center in Aying.

Honest words and humanity

Josef Sedlmair was by no means a man of big words.

He had the talent of using calm words to bring turbulent discussions down to a normal level again.

But no matter who you ask, one thing always sticks in the mind of Blindhamer.

Mayor Wagner says: "Humanity was one of the top principles according to which Sepp acted."

This applied to his work on the farm, to accompanying his son Sepp when he developed the mountain zoo, to club matters or to life with others.

Sedlmair's friendliness, his open but level-headed manner and his calmness had an impact on everyone who had anything to do with him.

“His honest words always carried weight.

Because of his manner and demeanor, everyone, whether young or old, always appreciated and liked him,” says Wagner.

With the death of Sedlmair, the community is poorer by a great personality.
