Maria Neufeld from Palzing made a conscious decision to believe.

In Advent, the 16-year-old celebrated baptism, confirmation and first communion - all on one day.

Palzing

- That was a special day for Maria Neufeld from Palzing: In the evening service on the third Sunday in Advent, the young woman from Palzing received three of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church from Pastor Hermann Schlicker from the Allershausen parish association.

The 16-year-old was thus ceremoniously accepted into the community of Christians.

Even if life according to Christian values was always part of life for Maria, who is currently completing her training at the Academy for Social Pedagogy in Seligenthal in Landshut, she somehow feels "different" after baptism, communion and confirmation on the same day, reports the young woman.

The blessing candle for birth became the christening candle

Baptism in adolescence was a very conscious decision.

From an early age, Maria was fascinated by the services in the Church of St. George.

However, her parents had decided not to carry her to the baptismal font as a baby, but to let her make the decision herself.

A candle was also lit at the birth: a blessing candle, which she always kept safe and which was raised to the baptismal candle when she received the sacrament.

Maria always took part in church services on Sundays and public holidays, and of course at the big church festivals such as Christmas, Easter and Pentecost.

Gladly also in the hands of grandma and grandpa.

She has always felt the Catholic liturgy to be full of symbolism and mysticism.

She has always been fascinated by incense, holy water and singing, as well as the frescoes and ceiling paintings that adorned the interiors of the places of worship.

"I've always been interested in looking at churches when we're going somewhere," the young woman recalls.

"Each church is different, even if they are similar from the outside." And it is always beautiful.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

When she gradually realized that the personal process had led to the decision to be baptized, Maria Neufeld contacted Pastor Hermann Schlicker.

He headed the Allershausen parish association, which also includes the Zollinger district of Palzing.

“I did my best,” says Maria and laughs.

She sent invitation cards to her friends and also put the cards on the table for grandma and grandpa - in two senses.

You wanted to show: "That's how I made my decision."

The white scarf symbolizes: Christ is with her

During the service on the third Sunday in Advent, the pastor wet Maria's head with holy water over the baptismal font.

Her godparents Katharina Scheuerl and Stefan Mühe stood behind her and put their hands on her shoulders as a sign that they were supporting Maria in her decision.

Maria has a close relationship with her godmother.

“Kathi has always been the babysitter for my sister and me.” And Maria had also asked her uncle to act as a godparent.

"My mom died last year.

I also wanted to have someone from her family with me.” After the laying on of hands, a white scarf was wrapped around her as a sign that Christ was with her.

Immediately afterwards, the Sacrament of Confirmation was administered to Mary.

She was also commissioned to act as a Christian, explained Pastor Schlicker.

Finally, she was allowed to receive the first Holy Communion.

My space

Her life didn't change much after the baptism, but somehow it got another dimension - more exciting and profound, the young woman reflects.

"When I sit with my sister on our favorite spot on the bench on the slope behind our garden, I see nature much more perfectly than I used to."
