Cardinal Marx opens carol singers in Bad Tölz

The opening of the carol singers campaign in the Archdiocese will take place in Bad Tölz this year.

Cardinal Marx will also come to the spa town on December 28th.

Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising, celebrates the diocesan opening of the Carolinger Campaign 2023 in Bad Tölz on Wednesday, December 28, with several hundred children and young people dressed up as kings and queens. The sending service begins at 11 a.m. in the parish church of Maria ascension.

Carol singers parade through the city center in their festive robes

Afterwards, the carol singer groups, who come from all over the Archdiocese, parade with their festive robes, crowns and stars through the town center of Tölz to the Franzmühle rectory.

A group also stops at the town hall to write the traditional blessing "Christus mansionem benedicat" ("Christ bless this house", 20 C+M+B 23) on the doors.

Indonesia is the focus this year

Every year, children and young people in the Archdiocese are out and about as carol singers.

Around Epiphany on January 6th, they go from house to house, singing and collecting donations.

In 2023, the campaign will have the motto "Strengthening children, protecting children - in Indonesia and worldwide".

The focus is on child protection, after all, children all over the world suffer from violence.

"The example of the ALIT Foundation in Indonesia should serve as an example of how child protection and participation can be promoted with the support of the carol singers," says a press release from the archdiocese.

The Sternsinger have been touring Germany since 1959

The Dreikönigssingen campaign has been Germany's largest solidarity campaign by children for children since 1959.

The sponsors are the children's missionary organization "Die Sternsinger" and the Association of German Catholic Youth.

In the previous campaign at the beginning of 2022, 534 carol singer groups in the Archdiocese collected 1.94 million euros, nationwide it was around 38.6 million euros.

The Dreikönigssingen campaign uses the funds to support projects in the fields of pastoral care, education, health, nutrition, social integration and rehabilitation as well as emergency aid.
