(CNN) --

Cher showed off a dazzling diamond ring in a social media post this weekend, but kept quiet about whether that means wedding bells will be ringing soon.

The legendary artist, who has been linked to rapper and music executive Alexander "AE" Edwards, posted the eye-catching photo of a gigantic diamond ring on Twitter over Christmas, fueling internet speculation about whether the couple got engaged.

The first photo showed Edwards holding a black velvet ring box, with the jewel gleaming in the light.

The other element of the image that caught the eye was Edwards' nails, which sported an unusual green and black fiery design.

"There are no words Alexander AE," Cher wrote in the caption of the photo, and 40 minutes later she posted the same image with an additional message reading "I posted this because her nails are so cool."

Although the "Believe" singer has yet to confirm the meaning of the ring, she has been more than open about her new relationship.

Last month, she responded to questions on social media after she and Edwards were photographed holding hands with her.

At the time, Cher responded with a smiley emoji surrounded by hearts to a person who tweeted asking her, "Is that your new man!?"
