A 38-year-old fled from the police in Lower Bavaria in a small town cul-de-sac.

Only under massive duress could he be stopped.

Passau – First an alleged hit-and-run, then a dangerous chase: A 38-year-old man who, according to a blood test, was “clearly under the influence of alcohol” injured several people in Passau and the surrounding area on Christmas Eve and also caused property damage.

Even driving into a dead end in Vilshofen - more than 20 kilometers from the starting point - did not want to stop the driver in his Skoda at first, as the police headquarters in Lower Bavaria announced on Sunday (December 25).

He had been admitted to a district hospital because of considerable danger to himself and others.

Skoda drivers caught cyclists and raced away

According to the police, the destructive car journey began with a collision with a cyclist in Passau.

The 38-year-old caught the 57-year-old cyclist with his Skoda Fabia.

The victim fell into a street and subsequently complained of back pain.

Instead of helping the man, the driver insulted him and drove on illegally.

A few minutes later, the man hit a BMW at excessive speed in a roundabout – and drove unabated in the direction of the municipality of Fürstenzell, southwest of Passau.

The driver also ignored a patrol car with the blue lights on and drove away at high speed.

According to the police, the escape only ended in Vilshofen.

There the 38-year-old had turned into a dead end.

Even there he tried to turn around at full speed, two police officers failed when trying to pull the man out of the vehicle.

They fell and sustained moderate injuries.

A few meters further, the car came to a standstill after colliding with a rock.

"Here the driver could be taken out of the vehicle by direct force and tied up," said the police headquarters.

The summary of the trip: a cyclist in the hospital, two injured and disabled police officers, damage to the mountain bike and BMW totaling an estimated 6,000 euros and endangering several road users.

Proceedings are now underway for assault, dangerous bodily harm, endangering road traffic and other offences.

The police also asked that road users who were in danger be contacted at the Passau police station.

On the night of Christmas Eve, a drunk 19-year-old crashed his car head-on into the car of a senior citizen in Upper Bavaria.
