The new crown pneumonia epidemic continues. Today (26th) there are 19,398 new confirmed cases in Hong Kong, and the cumulative number of confirmed cases has exceeded 2.5 million, reaching 2,502,672 cases2.

Three days later, the number of confirmed cases returned to below 20,000, a slight drop of 8% from yesterday.

As for residential institutions, the number of positive cases reported by residential institutions is still in double digits, with 60 residents and 6 staff members diagnosed.

In addition, 47 more people died today, the seven-day average death rate dropped slightly to 0.223%, the overall death rate remained at 0.46%, and the cumulative death toll was 11,509.

Overview of today's epidemic situation:

Among the samples received by the Public Health Laboratory Service of the Department of Health for verification tests of local cases from December 17 to 23, the Omicron variant virus strain BA.2.12.1 and BA.4/BA.5 substrains (including suspected cases ) related samples accounted for 0% and about 52.44% (seven-day moving average ratio) respectively.

As the proportion of BA.4/BA.5 substrains in the overall cases decreased, new mutated virus strains were also found in local cases in Hong Kong.

As of 00:00 on December 26, the Public Health Laboratory Service Office of the Department of Health has found a total of 226 cases of XBB, six cases of XBD, eight cases of BA.2.75.2, seven cases of BA.4.6, and 13 cases of BF. The Hospital Authority announced that 4,665 confirmed patients were hospitalized in public hospitals yesterday (25th).

Among the patients in hospital, 586 are newly confirmed patients, 3,034 need to be admitted to isolation facilities, 613 are receiving oxygen therapy, and 77 need ventilators to assist breathing.

22 critical and 32 serious confirmed patients were newly reported. At present, a total of 174 critical and 192 serious confirmed patients are hospitalized, of which 46 critical patients are receiving intensive treatment.
