The District Court in Tel Aviv this morning (Monday) sentenced Ortel Binyamin and Rinat Yanko, the assistants who were convicted of abusing and assaulting toddlers at the Siegel Kindergarten in Holon, to eight and four years in prison.
The two were convicted of dozens of incidents of assault and abuse of toddlers, including physical and mental abuse of a minor, assault causing injury and simple assault, after committing the acts on 26 toddlers in a daycare they worked in a period of about three weeks.
"The assistants were convicted of multiple offenses of physical abuse, assaults and bruises against tender toddlers in the years they were under their responsibility," Judge Yosef Topf opened his words, quoting from Janusz Korczak's book "How to Love Children": "Beneath a uniform, different hearts beat and each one has difficulty Another, other concern and fear..".
He added: "Intentional harm is a betrayal of the baby and its parents. The acts inflict significant fear and terror on the victim. The victim is in a vulnerable position without any ability to defend himself. My heart goes out to the toddlers who suffered at the hands of the helpers. The parents entrusted the most precious thing to them and they betrayed their trust."
"This is not a one-time incident - these are actions that were repeated daily and sometimes hourly. The actions of the accused arouse disgust and disgust. Viewing the documentation is outrageous and difficult."
He detailed the damages suffered by the toddlers: "The toddlers were physically and emotionally harmed, and their ability to establish trust was also harmed. The toddlers refused to cover themselves with a blanket, nighttime expressions, crying in their sleep, reluctance and fear of adults including relatives, acts of violence, throwing themselves on the floor, pulling hair, Panic from noises, language difficulties and regression."

Before the judges announced the sentence, the parents accompanied the assistants into the courtroom shouting "Justice for the children", "Shame on you", "Scream like our children screamed".
One of the mothers said, "Soon we will accompany you to Neve Tirzah. There is a whole department of helpers like you who abuse the helpless. Children with disabilities and post-traumatic stress were allowed to you. My son still has nightmares because of you."
The lawyer of one of the assistants told the parents and photographers who approached them "don't exaggerate, don't cross the border".
The parents answered: "Are we crossing the border? You got a little confused."
"Nothing will satisfy us. We want to take away their freedom like they took away our children. We hope there will be a miracle this holiday," said the parents in the courtroom before the sentencing.
