In Hermon the cold has already dropped to minus three degrees - and the fighters in the sector are dealing with the difficult conditions and the snow, which started falling today (Monday).

Soldiers of the 13th Battalion of the Golani Brigade, who have been manning the outposts in Hermon for about a month and a half, received special equipment designed to deal with the cold.

"Caring for the fighters is our top priority," said the deputy commander of Company A, Capt. Yair Ben Shimol, who mans the Astra outpost in Hermon.

Captain Ben Shimol noted that the preparation for the severe weather began already weeks ago.

"We need to give the soldiers the safety envelope, that every soldier will return home safely and properly, without frostbite or after slipping in the snow."

"A warrior deserves the best conditions."

Among other things, the soldiers received rations;

warming shoes;

storm suits;

Heating bags and heating means.

"There are audits to constantly check that the fighters have all the conditions for operational activity in the snow in the safest way," added the company commander.

"The staff makes rounds at the positions both at night and during the day to ensure hot drinks for the soldiers, and makes sure that the soldier manages to keep watch even at three and four in the morning, when the position is terribly cold. The commander comes and gives a good word, with a cup of hot tea. That's how I know that the soldier has the best conditions ", he emphasized.

The Astra outpost where the fighters are located, which sits on the border triangle between Lebanon, Syria and Israel, is one of the highest outposts in the country and the northernmost among them.

"The snow has been piling up since last night," Ben Shimol pointed out.

"It has already reached a height of several centimeters and is slowly piling up."

He concluded, "We are happy to be here. This is an experience that prepares us for war. We hope to do it in the best way to give the people of Israel peace from the northern border. It's not just that Golani are in Hermon."
