The Tegernsee-Egern-Kreuth parish association is urgently looking for carol singers.

In an interview, pastoral officer Maria Thanbichler explains why there are too few participants and how she would like to change that.

Tegernseer Tal

- When the new year is over, the carol singers traditionally bring the blessing of the newborn child of God into the houses and apartments.

At the same time, the children dressed as the Three Wise Men collect donations for the needy.

For the second time in a row, there are far too few carol singers in the parishes of Egern and Tegernsee to cover all households.

Pastoral officer Maria Thanbichler (61) is therefore still beating the drum for the campaign on the last few meters.

And not just for children.

Ms. Thanbichler, once again there are not enough carol singers in Tegernsee and Rottach-Egern.

How come?

Maria Thanbichler:

We have the biggest problem in Tegernsee.

There are basically few children who come into question.

In the case of those elementary school students who initially show enthusiasm, the parents then have to agree.

And they may be planning something else at the time or think the family needs the free time to themselves.

On the one hand, understandable.

In the end there are only a few left.

And how is the situation in Egern?

Maria Thanbichler:

We have a lot more participants there than last year.

A few communion children were also won over to the campaign.

However, if you consider how many groups used to leave, there is no comparison to today.

Only Kreuth is the positive exception: We have ten groups there this year who will be on the road.

So you have to do a lot of advertising for the carol singers.

Maria Thanbichler:

Yes, we even asked the Kolping Family whether adults would also be willing to take part in the carol singing campaign.

This could be an addition to the children's groups.

There are no age limits.

What requirements do you actually have to meet in order to join the Three Kings?

Maria Thanbichler:

The carol singers have to learn a spell that they recite at the front door.

If they can sing, it would also be nice if they would sing during their visits.

And they have to bring a little time with them.

That's a good cue.

How much time do those who want to be with the carol singers have to invest?

Maria Thanbichler:

The groups are generally on the road from January 1st to 6th.

However, the participants can also only go on individual days – that is flexible.

We are happy about every time commitment.

If adults agree, they could only set off in the evening - many of them are employed.

In the run-up to the campaign, there are also rehearsal dates where the basics are clarified and the clothes are tried on.

Of course, the carol singers should also identify with their message, right?

Maria Thanbichler:

The carol singers bring the blessing of the newborn child of God into the homes for the new year - the children and adults should of course relate to this message.

They should also have a heart for children in need, for whom the campaign collects.

Basically, it is a great experience, especially for children, to be out and about together.

That makes the children happy - and of course they also grow from it when they go from house to house and say their saying in front of strangers.

Anyone who would like to take part in the Sternsinger campaign can register here

Interested children and adults who would like to take part in the carol singers only have to fill out the registration form on the homepage of the parish association Tegernsee-Egern-Kreuth (www.pv-tek.de) and send it to the address given.

Interested parties can also contact pastoral officer Maria Thanbichler at the e-mail address mthanbichler@ebmuc.de or telephone 01 51 / 18 73 63 42.

In Tegernsee there will be a rehearsal for the carol singers in the Quirinal on Friday, December 30th at 3 p.m.

A rehearsal is scheduled for Tuesday, December 27th at 5 p.m. in the rectory in Egern.
