Opinion Beaten with blinders: the wrong conception against Hezbollah | Israel today

2022-12-26T06:25:29.470Z

Very worrying is the support of senior officials in the security system for ideas that turn out to be a mistake, such as the Oslo agreement, the descent from the Golan - and recently also the naval agreement with Lebanon

Last week, Idan Avni reported in Israel Hayom about a 420% increase in incidents on the border fence with Lebanon.

Hezbollah operatives patrol near the border, observe and even "open axes".

Among other things, the article described an interesting practice: Hezbollah men stationed in the Metula area blind the people of the colony with laser beams.

The IDF, in response, activated a powerful searchlight. In the same news, it was stated that IDF bulldozers, which crossed the perimeter fence and carried out earthworks in territory belonging to the State of Israel, were accompanied by Hezbollah personnel, who stood a few meters from the working bulldozers and the IDF soldiers who secured them. "It is evident in them," the news item states, "because they are not among the occupants of the offices." In other words - it is clear that these are fighters.

I would like to remind the readers that in Agreement 1701, which was approved by the UN Security Council at the end of the Second Lebanon War, in August 2006, and which was presented by then Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni as the pinnacle of her achievements in this role, it was stipulated that the Lebanese army would be deployed along the border with Israel and avoid Hezbollah members It goes without saying that the agreement is signed by representatives of the Lebanese government, apart from Israel.

I would not mention this as an "achievement", since, apart from Livni, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and some Israeli "security experts", no one took the signed agreement seriously.

Mrs. Livni and Mr. Olmert have disappeared from our political world, but I am still required to the matter, since these who brag about the gas agreement that was recently signed between the State of Israel and an unknown entity that lacks any authority or responsibility in Lebanon, also rely on senior Israeli security officials, whose degree of familiarity with the Lebanese arena reminds Unfortunately, that of the senior officials of the Mossad's "Tevel" wing.

It was the wing whose people were given the responsibility of handling relations with the Lebanese organizations in 1976, and in their ignorance supported the far-fetched idea of the then Minister of Defense, the late Ariel Sharon: "The control of a new order in Lebanon."

Of great concern is the support of senior officials in the security establishment for ideas that later turn out to be a mistake, such as the Oslo Accords, or the enthusiastic support for the descent from the Golan in exchange for a peace agreement with Syria.

These positions on the part of those senior officials raise doubts about their professional integrity.

50 years have passed since the Yom Kippur War, in which too many cases of hypocrisy by professional elements were discovered - especially among intelligence personnel against the head of the AMN, who adhered to a wrong concept and whose motives led him to continue to hold the same opinion, even when the information flowing from the collection agencies indicated a certain war , have not yet been investigated and it is doubtful that they will ever be investigated.

The Israel of 2022 signs an agreement with a political entity that is unable to meet the terms of the previous agreement with it from 2006, and in both cases things are done under the auspices, blessing and encouragement of senior security officials, who bear no responsibility for their errors.

So who is blinding who?

Yair Ravid (Ravitz) served in the past as the commander of the northern area of Unit 504, and as the head of the Mossad's operational branch in Beirut.

His book "Window to the Backyard" describes the establishment of ties between the State of Israel and the Christians in Lebanon
