There is almost no player who does not know Rayman, one of the most iconic characters in the gaming world.
The series started somewhere in the late nineties and lasted until the previous decade, and had quite a few ups and downs throughout the years.
The first three games maintained the action-platform principles, but between 2006 and 2010, Ubisoft introduced the (infamous) Rabbids with the Raving Rabbids series and turned Rayman into a social armchair game series.
Rayman may have returned in 2011 to his 2D roots with the Origins and Legends games, but it turns out that Biosoft has planned a fourth sequel title that will continue the 3D line they introduced starting with the second game.
This week the source code of this intended game was leaked online along with the development and editing tools of the developers, and we get a first look at the project that was never published.

Players on the network published videos of several test stages intended for developers to test the game environment, the various mechanics, and the battle system.
It seems that in the fourth game Rayman was not supposed to use energy beams from his hand or his fists, and instead holds a weapon that shoots carrots at the rabids.
This confirms to us that before the Rabbids took over the brand, there was a plan for them to function as enemies in the fourth title.
Other stages show us riding mechanics and you can see Rayman on a giant spider, and in the video attached above you can also see several unfinished transition scenes.
The developers intended to allow changing skins for Rayman, one of which was a naked Rayman skin, which was eventually included in Legends from 2013, and is considered the last game in the series.

Since then, Ubisoft seems to be leaving its icon in the past, and currently no plans have been revealed as to whether it intends to work on a sequel or even a reboot.
This is not the only piece of history that never got to see the light of day that was leaked online this week.
The game version of Duke Nukem Forever from 2001 was also leaked, giving players a glimpse of what could have been.
