This could save your life if your car gets caught in a winter storm 1:16
(CNN) --
In some snow-shrouded parts of the United States, last-minute Christmas gifts will turn into early New Year's gifts.
A massive winter storm that has battered much of the United States with brutal winter weather forced trucking companies to ground planes, close parcel facilities and not send their trucks on their normal routes.
The dangerous storm, which has killed at least 47 people across the country, buried parts of western New York in up to 110 centimeters of snow.
Thousands of people lost power over the Christmas weekend.

UPS said it had outages in 898 ZIP codes across four states as of Monday, and FedEx continues to expect delays throughout the day.
In Michigan, New York, Indiana and Ohio, UPS said it would not make pickups or deliveries in the hundreds of ZIP codes listed on its service alerts website.
Although UPS said contingency plans are in place to help packages arrive as quickly as possible, the company warned that service disruptions persisted.
"Significant weather events across various regions of the US are affecting UPS's air and ground network, including UPS facilities in Louisville, Kentucky, and Rockford, Illinois," the company said in a statement.
"As a result, some delivery and pickup services in these areas will be affected."

FedEx went on to warn that "substantial disruptions" at its Memphis and Indianapolis hubs would delay shipments across the United States.
Like UPS, FedEx said it had contingency plans to deliver the packages on time.
But the company said package delays would continue through Monday.
Amazon and the US Postal Service warned Friday that the winter storm disrupted operations in the last few days of delivery before Christmas.
The US Postal Service said dozens of post offices were temporarily closed by the storm, mostly across South Dakota and North Dakota, and a few in Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. It asked customers to remove snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs and mailboxes to help mail carriers make deliveries.
Amazon also said it was forced to close some facilities because of the storm.
He added that employees at the facility would be paid for the canceled shifts.
