In the days following the attack, investigators from the Shin Bet and the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, with the assistance of IDF forces, collected findings and evidence in order to trace the identity of the terrorist.

On the weekend after the attack, suspicious items were found hidden in the area, in an open area of Yosh, near the Og observation deck, including: a scooter that was allegedly used by the terrorist to carry out the attack and place the charges, five pipe bombs, various clothes that were used by the terrorist before and during and after the attack, Helmet and more.

As a result of these findings and other investigative actions that were carried out at the same time while arresting suspects and interrogating them, Shin Bet investigators and the Jerusalem District Attorney traced the identity of the terrorist who carried out the attack.

The terrorist, Aslam Faroh, 26 years old, a resident of Israel, with no previous security background, lives alternately in Kfar Aqab and Ramallah, a mechanical engineer by profession, was transferred with his arrest to the Shin Bet and police investigation.

The investigation by the Shin Bet and the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office reveals that the suspect, who operated under a Salafi-Jihadist ideology that identifies with the terrorist organization of the Islamic State (ISIS), carried out these attacks alone, after planning their execution for some time, in order to harm Israeli citizens in Jerusalem .

As part of the investigation, it emerged that the detainee consumed terrorist content and, among other things, from watching it, he learned about making explosives and conducted experiments in a hole he dug in an open area in the Binyamin area, where he also made the explosive charges.

In the pit that was found and blown up, raw materials were hidden to create additional charges, and a Carlo type weapon was also seized in the possession of the perpetrator.

During the chase, another explosive was caught ready to be activated.

The investigation shows that Faroh intended to use them to carry out additional attacks.

The arrest of the terrorist was extended from time to time in the High Court. Today, a prosecutor's statement was submitted against him by the police and in the coming days an indictment for acts of terrorism and murder is expected against him by the prosecutor's office.

As part of the investigation, additional suspects were arrested, but it turned out in the investigation that they were not involved in this attack.

One of these suspects was arrested by the detectives of the central unit of the Jerusalem district and during his investigation it became clear that he had planned alone and without connection to the bomb attack, to carry out another attack in the area of the central station in Jerusalem.

The suspect was in the initial stages of planning and his arrest thwarted his intentions.

His detention was extended and an indictment is also expected against him in the coming days.

Escaped on a scooter to the Judean Desert

The police and the Shin Bet met with the families of those murdered in the attack and told them about the deciphering of the deadly attack.

From the investigation and the joint activity of the Jerusalem District Attorney with the Israel Police, the Shin Bet and the IDF, it emerged that the terrorist planned the combined attack for a long time, including his escape route and arrived on the morning of the attack with a motorcycle, placed the charges about an hour before the attack, activated them via telephones cell phones and left Jerusalem towards Nahal Og in the Judean Desert.

This area was searched by IDF forces alongside Shin Bet personnel and police forces, and findings were found in the cave, including the scooter used by the terrorist to carry out the attack, details of clothing and a helmet, and five other small charges, which were hidden under rocks in the area, which the terrorist planned to connect to one large charge weighing approx. -5 kilograms in order to detonate it on the rescue forces after the initial explosion in the Ramots, but due to a malfunction he did not activate it.

Police forensics and sabotage personnel arrived at the scene and operated in the area.

The findings were transferred to the national headquarters and in parallel with the findings in the laboratories, the police and Shin Bet worked to locate the terrorist.

The examination of the scooter revealed that the terrorist changed the identification of the scooter and changed the number at a cost until he arrived at a motorcycle shop in Kfar Aqab.

The investigation by the police and Shin Bet and the examination of the findings and the scooter led to the suspect of carrying out the attack and he was arrested at his workplace in Mishor Adumim.

The suspect in carrying out the attack has no criminal record, has a high level of technical knowledge, who adopted an extreme Islamist ideology, advocating Jihad and learned through social networks how to carry out an attack and also obscure the identity of the attacker.

He prepared a laboratory for himself, brought the equipment and also conducted experiments.

He also obtained a weapon with a silencer, purchased a scooter, obscured the identity of the scooter by painting it and changing its identification plate and chassis number and also studied the area where he carried out the attack.

The terrorist planned to carry out a double attack and place another large bomb in order to harm the security and rescue forces, which he did not place in the end due to a malfunction.

During the investigation it became clear that the terrorist carried out the attack alone without accomplices and also that he has friends with the same extreme ideology.

A friend of his admitted in the investigation that he planned to carry out a suicide attack with an explosive belt at a bus station for soldiers in the central station in Jerusalem.

This attack, which was in the initial stages of planning, was foiled as part of the investigation.

Also, two foreign citizens were arrested, one American and the other American-Canadian, who were interrogated and after suspicions of incitement arose against them, they were deported from the country.
