Six generals were arrested in Peru yesterday (Monday) in a number of raids in the country, as part of the investigation surrounding the attempted coup of the former Peruvian president, Pedro Castillo.
Among other things, Castillo is suspected of ordering the illegal promotion of a number of military and police officers during his tenure.
One of the raids was on the home of Walter Ayala, Castillo's former defense minister.
There, the security forces found a series of suspicious findings last night, including "documents and devices", they noted.

Ayala rejected the claims and told local reporters that "there was no need for a raid because they found nothing. The investigation is already a year old and it's all a show," he explained.
According to the researchers, the six arrested generals are suspected of bribing government officials in order to promote them, all with the apparent approval of the former president.
As you may remember, on December 7 Castillo ordered the closing of Congress, a military curfew and a general reform process to replace the form of government and the country's judicial system, at the same time as the vote to remove him from office by the legislators of Peru.
In response, the army and police forces arrested the former president who was soon replaced by his deputy, Dina Bulourata.
According to local reports, Castillo was arrested when he was on his way to claim political asylum at the Mexican embassy in the Peruvian capital.
He is accused of "sedition" and is in prison for 48 months before his trial begins.
