At the instigation of the CSU, virtual district council meetings were abolished.

What does the CSU MP Irlstorfer, who himself suffers from the consequences of Corona, have to say about this?

Freising

– He is a health politician, he is a member of the CSU, he is a district councillor, chairman of the ELIAS association, which takes care of corona patients with long-term consequences, and himself one who is still suffering from the consequences of a Covid19 infection: Erich Irlstorfer, member of the Bundestag .

In view of new decisions at federal, state and district level, it is time to question the 52-year-old in detail.

Mr. Irlstorfer, Bavaria is once again at the forefront, this time with the abolition of the mask requirement in public transport.

What does the CSU health politician Irlstorfer say about this?

For me as a health politician, but also personally, the pandemic is not over yet.

However, I am of the opinion that after almost three years we must give the citizens more personal responsibility.

We have all learned how we should behave in a pandemic - also in times of increased illnesses caused by other viral infections.

In addition, the immunity of the population is significantly higher and the dynamics of the pandemic are milder than in previous phases.

However, the top priority must still be to protect vulnerable groups in particular.

I therefore encourage all citizens to wear FFP2 masks in the winter months to protect themselves, their families and others.

The mask requirement still applies in clinics and care facilities.

Is that right?

And how do you explain the difference to people?

I think this decision is absolutely right.

Clinics and care facilities are medical places.

The main focus must be on the patients, those in need of care and the employees.

The protection of these groups of people is particularly important and can be guaranteed in a low-threshold and proportionate manner by wearing a mask.

Of course, infections can still occur, but we can at least minimize the risk this way.

I would wish that the wearing of medical masks in appropriate facilities to protect people on site would become more part of our everyday life.

Is the corona pandemic over?

Has the danger passed?

How does the chairman of the association ELIAS see it?

As I said before, the pandemic is not over for me.

The risk of our healthcare system being overloaded has decreased, but there is still a risk for every individual to become infected and, in the worst case, to suffer from long-term effects.

As chairman of the association, I see myself confirmed here.

The inquiries to our association are not decreasing, and people continue to be very concerned.

It would be important to me that we as a society learn something from the hardships of the pandemic and take more account of the individual perception of individuals.

Health is and will remain important - whether you like it or not.

The Freisinger district council is no longer allowed to hold hybrid meetings from 2023 - mainly due to the efforts of the CSU - the district councilors must be present again.

Does this make sense?

What does district councilor Irlstorfer say about this?

How would you have voted?

My space

In the Health Committee of the German Bundestag, for example, we hold hybrid meetings.

Personally, I think this is good and makes sense to minimize the risk of infection and also to protect ourselves.

But I also understand the reasoning of my district council colleagues to hold the meetings purely physically.

I too am of the opinion that complex topics in particular can be better discussed in person.

I would have voted for hybrid sessions though.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Which arguments are decisive for you in this question?

The meetings of the district council are often held behind closed doors and not because you want to hide something, but to offer a protected space for an open exchange.

In the context of hybrid sessions, this cannot be fully guaranteed, since, for example, you are in the same room with family members in everyday family life.

This can sometimes restrict and complicate the culture of debate and distort results.

In addition, there is the technical and personnel effort to enable virtual participation without disruption.

From the middle of next year that would certainly have been an option.
