The National Health and Medical Commission announced a major change in prevention and control policies in the middle of the night on Monday (26th). The mainland will be "switched" from January 8th. Chinese and foreign personnel entering the mainland do not need to undergo nucleic acid testing and centralized isolation (quarantine). A negative nucleic acid test result within the previous 48 hours is sufficient.
Li Weizhen, chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Medical Laboratories, predicts that the laboratories in Hong Kong can perform at least 80,000 to 100,000 single-sample nucleic acid tests per day, which is believed to be able to meet the initial demand for customs clearance.
