The energy crisis hit Germany's household budgets hard.

But in 2023 there will be some relief in the areas of energy and mobility.

Munich – The topic of energy was more important than ever in 2022.

Energy prices reached record highs this year after the outbreak of the Ukraine war.

As a result, the traffic light government has taken some measures to relieve consumers.

An overview of what will change in the area of energy and mobility in 2023:

Gas and electricity price brakes are coming

In order to cushion the high electricity and gas prices, the federal government has decided on two price brakes.

Gas consumers are to be guaranteed a gross price of 12 cents per kilowatt hour for 80 percent of their current consumption.

Similarly, 40 cents per kilowatt hour are planned for electricity.

The discounts will apply from March and will also apply retrospectively to January and February once they have started.

Successor to the 9-euro ticket: Inexpensive local transport with the Deutschlandticket

After the 9-euro ticket from the 2022 relief package was such a great success, the successor is to come in 2023.

The so-called Deutschlandticket should cost 49 euros per month and be valid for local public transport throughout Germany.

However, the exact start date is not yet known.

E-car funding is falling

Buyers of plug-in hybrid vehicles will no longer receive federal funding from 2023.

In addition, the premiums for purely electric vehicles are falling.

Funding will be limited to private individuals as of September 1st.

Private solar systems: New rule is intended to make installation more attractive

There are simplifications for owners of solar systems in the new year.

For some systems, there is no obligation to have a special generator electricity meter installed.

Some regulations of the new Renewable Energy Sources Act 2023 are already taking effect.

Climate tax for heating: Landlords must participate

From January, landlords will in many cases have to contribute to their tenants' climate tax for heating.

The so-called CO2 price is divided between tenants and landlords according to a tiered model.

The less climate-friendly the house is, the more the landlord has to take on.

So far, tenants have had to pay the levy, which is intended to help reduce climate-damaging carbon dioxide emissions.

Delayed nuclear phase-out

In mid-April, the last German nuclear reactors will go offline.

The Isar 2, Neckarwestheim 2 and Emsland power plants should actually have been shut down at the turn of the year as part of the nuclear phase-out, but the term was extended due to the energy crisis.

Tax concessions for LPG no longer apply

Anyone who fills up their vehicle with autogas, also known as LPG, will have to dig deeper into their pockets from 2023.

A tax concession expires and the regular tax rate of 409 euros per ton applies.

However, according to the ADAC, the taxes are cheaper than for petrol or diesel.

Truck toll will be increased

The truck toll on Germany's trunk roads will be increased in 2023.

When calculating the rates, the costs of noise and air pollution will be taken into account more in future.
