It is already known that Mike Pence, the former US Vice President, has presidential ambitions.
But now a possible official candidacy is causing confusion.
WASHINGTON, DC – Former US Vice President under Donald Trump, Mike Pence, has apparently not made his 2024 candidacy for the White House official after all.
First, the British broadcaster
Sky News
reported that the 63-year-old Republican had submitted an application to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) – screenshots circulated on Twitter.
Pence's spokesman, Devin O'Malley, then spoke.
He tweeted that Pence "did not submit any documents for the presidential nomination today."
The document on the FEC's website was filed for a Mr. "Mike Richard Pence" at an address in Anderson, Indiana, Pence's home state.
However, the ex-VP's full name is "Michael Richard Pence," and according to the
Indianapolis Star
, he and his family last bought a home in Carmel, Indiana.
It is currently unclear who is behind the submitted documents.
A Twitter user asked O'Malley if he thought someone pranked Pence's team with the FEC filing.
To which the speaker replied, "I think someone was pranking you."
It's no secret that Mike Pence is flirting with a presidential candidacy in 2024 against his former boss.
Recently, the fundamentalist evangelical Christian was on a book tour for his new work, entitled So Help Me God.
Among top politicians in the US, a widely promoted book is often the harbinger of the announcement of a presidential candidacy.
Pence also said he and his family were "reverently considering" it.
Politico
reported that Pence and his team began hiring political personnel in November.

Donald Trump: Which Republican will take on him?
Donald Trump has declared the only official candidacy for the next US presidency so far.
His successor, Joe Biden, plans to announce his decision on whether to run again in 2024 at the beginning of the year.
Another high-profile contender for the Republican nomination is far-right Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
He had won his re-election, which took place as part of the Midterms, by a wide margin.

Trump continues to rank highly among the Make America Great Again grassroots, and according to polls, DeSantis is currently the only Republican likely to take on Trump in the primary.
The more candidates against the ex-president, the better his chances of winning the primary because the anti-Trump votes are then distributed among several competitors.
