It is well known that the range of e-cars decreases when it is cold – but a Tesla Model S could no longer be charged either.

The driver got stuck on Christmas Eve.

There are fewer reservations about electric cars – more and more electric vehicles are also being registered in Germany.

Nevertheless, there are issues that still need to be improved over the next few years.

For example in the charging infrastructure and the charging speed.

Another major problem with electric cars is the sharp drop in range when it’s cold: According to experts, this decreases by up to 41 percent when the temperature is below zero.

It is all the more problematic when the vehicle then no longer wants to charge – as apparently happened to a Tesla owner in the USA.

Tesla driver stuck on Christmas Eve – Model S no longer charges in the cold

In a video (below) on the TikTok platform, the man describes his problem: His Tesla Model S refuses to charge when it's cold - it doesn't work either at home or at the Supercharger (whose locations you can now vote for online) .

In his clip, he demonstrates the error at a Tesla charging station.

According to the temperature display, it is minus seven degrees Celsius (19 degrees Fahrenheit).

As soon as he plugs the cable into the Model S, a message appears on the display: "Battery is heating up - do not disconnect the charging cable." But otherwise nothing happens.

The remaining range shown on the display remains at a meager 19 miles (around 30 kilometers).

Even an hour after plugging it in, the Tesla still wasn't drawing any power.

And not two hours later either, as the man documents with his camera.

As if the incident wasn't annoying enough: "It's Christmas Eve," says the owner with a sad look.

In the comments, however, there is little constructive help for the man - on the contrary: the Tesla driver also has to put up with some mockery:

  • "We will meet in summer."

  • "Have you tried turning on the log fire screensaver?"

  • "Buy another one and you'll always have a backup vehicle."

  • "I know what's wrong with him... He doesn't run on gas."

  • "Thank you for convincing me to never buy a Tesla."

Tesla driver is stuck on Christmas Eve - car is towed to the service center

In a follow-up video, the Model S owner explains that Tesla has now contacted him.

The company was "very accommodating" and provided him with a Model 3 as a replacement car.

His Model S was towed to a service center two hours away and is being examined there.
