The Knesset plenum will shortly (Tuesday) begin the discussion in preparation for the final vote on amending the law to the Police Ordinance so that it will grant powers to Minister-designate Itamar Ben Gabir over the police.

According to the opposition's plan, a night filibuster will be held in which the discussion will last for about 16 hours continuously until the vote in the second and third readings tomorrow morning.



The bill that was split yesterday by the Knesset will allow Ben Gabir to outline police policy and set priorities, work plans and also control the police budget and formulating general guidelines.

Two key sections were taken out of the text that will be approved by the plenum due to the recommendation of the legal advice to the Knesset and the central one is the subordination of the commissioner to the minister. The legislation of these sections will be promoted after the swearing in of the government, with the consent of Ben Gabir.



After the bill is approved by the Knesset plenum tomorrow, Prime Minister-designate Binyamin Netanyahu is expected to place the coalition agreements on the Knesset table and begin the division of files within the Likud, including the election of a new Knesset speaker to replace the interim speaker Yariv Levin.

The latter resigned from his position today, and the resignation will take effect in two days, ahead of his swearing in as a minister, most likely in the Ministry of Justice.

The bill is expected to be voted on tomorrow with the amendment.
