During an interview of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, to the official news agency TASS, the official claimed that the US threatened to eliminate President Vladimir Putin and that Washington and the West were working "for the destruction of our country".
"Some 'unnamed officials' from the Pentagon actually threatened to deliver a 'beheading blow' to the Kremlin," Lavrov said in an interview, the contents of which were published this morning (Tuesday) in the Russian media.

"In fact, we are talking about the threat of physical elimination of the head of the Russian state. If such ideas were really concocted by someone, he should think very carefully about the possible consequences of such plans," he added.
Lavrov later referred to the campaign in Ukraine which began last February 24 and in this context once again accused the West under the US and NATO which he claims are fomenting war.
"It is no longer a secret to anyone that the strategic goal of the US and its NATO allies is to defeat Russia on the battlefield as a mechanism for significantly weakening or even destroying our country," he emphasized.
Finally, the senior diplomat set Russia's conditions for future negotiations with Kyiv in the form of an ultimatum, saying that Kyiv must "de-Nazify" its territory.
