Weather phenomenon ensures spring temperatures in Bavaria - warm phase lasts for a long time

Rain and mud instead of fresh snow: The jet stream brings mild, humid air to Bavaria until New Year's Eve.
It should even get warmer.
Many ski areas have to close.
Munich – The long-term weather forecast for Bavaria in particular makes many ski area operators shiver, but not because of the cold.
It could get up to 14 degrees on New Year's Eve in Munich.
In southern Baden (Baden-Württemberg), the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts up to 17 degrees.
And until then it will remain particularly mild and rainy in southern Germany and Bavaria for the next few days.

Jetstream brings mild and humid air to Bavaria - and is only just getting started
A well-known weather phenomenon is to blame.
the jet stream.
It blows with full force from the west and throws one low after the other with mild sea air over Bavaria.
After several storm warnings of black ice, this current weather phenomenon is now fully catching on in Bavaria.
It has been raining in many places since Christmas Eve with temperatures in the double-digit plus range.
Before Christmas, the European weather model predicted a turnaround in the weather at the end of the holidays.
The jet stream should shift to the north, but polar air should come from the north as far as Bavaria.

Spring weather in Bavaria: A little cooler at the start of the week, then even warmer
But no trace of that.
Although Tuesday (December 27) and Wednesday (December 28) are expected to cool down a bit, with temperatures below zero at night, the forecast for New Year's Eve is even higher than for the Christmas holidays.
As early as Thursday (December 29), strong, sometimes gusty south-west winds will blow again and bring maximum values of up to 13 degrees.

Weather in Bavaria at the turn of the year: 15 degrees plus on New Year's Eve!
On New Year's Eve, the current DWD long-term forecast even shows 15 degrees in Bavaria.
And the trend continues.
The coming week after the New Year also promises rain and unusually mild temperatures.

Ski areas in Bavaria have to close or don't open at all
This makes the situation dramatic for winter sports enthusiasts and lift operators.
The ski areas in the Bavarian low mountain ranges now have to close early in the middle of the Christmas holidays - or don't open at all.
In Bavaria's highest ski area outside the Alps, on the Arber in the Bavarian Forest, the gondola lift has been running since Christmas Day, but only for pedestrians.
Winter sports enthusiasts who have come especially for the holidays look at green slopes in drizzle.
The start of the season has been pushed back to December 27th.
According to the current weather forecast, it is more than questionable whether this date will be kept.
Fear in Bavarian ski areas: bad memories from the previous year
In the Bavarian Alps, too, one has to be concerned about the weather conditions.
All major ski areas are currently open there, but it remains questionable how long the snow will survive at plus 10 degrees and without night frost.
The snow line in the Alps is currently between 2500 and 2900 meters, so it just reaches the summit of the Zugspitze.
A year ago during the Christmas celebrations, the Brauneck ski area in Lenggries, which is particularly popular with Munich residents, had to close 22 of a total of 25 pistes by January 6th.
And that in the first season after a long Corona ban.
