Apparently there is no basis for negotiation between Russia and Ukraine.
Nevertheless, the population is war-weary, admits a Russian moderator.
MOSCOW - A presenter on Russian state television has admitted that a large part of the Russian population would like an end to the war in Ukraine.
The country was "exhausted in every respect," said moderator Olga Skabeeva.
Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Minister, shared a clip of the program on Twitter.
"We are all adults and we know very well that the war is draining the Russian state in every way," said Skabeeva.
"At the same time, of course, as reasonable and normal people, we are not able to enjoy military action and war, and I am sure that each of us wants an end to hostilities."
However, peace is currently not possible, added Skabeeva.
"We simply understand that this is completely unrealistic and impossible under the current conditions." Kremlin officials up to and including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had recently attested Ukraine and the West's inability to negotiate.
News about the Ukraine war: Possible peace scenarios for Russia unimaginable
Skabeeva is known as the "Iron Doll of Putin TV".
In her announcements, she refers to an article in the US newspaper
Washington Post
, which reported that US officials had asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to make a "deal" with Russia.
If you read the article closely and carefully, it offers Russia three scenarios, Skabeeva explained.
In each of these, they could "just shoot themselves."
In fact, the scenarios mentioned do not correspond to the Russian war aims.
The three rumored options: First, Russia could withdraw from all occupied Ukrainian territories - including Crimea, which has been occupied since 2014, and eastern Donbass.
The second variant envisages a withdrawal to the 2014 fronts, the last variant involves a withdrawal from Donbass, but not from Crimea.

"We cannot go through with this, because then a 'special military operation' would become meaningless, which means that we would betray ourselves and our country," Skabeeva said.

Russia's population is war-weary - but cannot give up
An actually secret poll from Russia comes to the same conclusion as Skabeeva.
According to this, more and more people in Russia consider the “special operation” – as the war is called in Russia – to be a mistake.
However, more and more people are of the opinion that the Ukraine war should not end now - for fear of defeat, according to an expert on the results of the survey.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly emphasized in the past that only a complete withdrawal of Russia would be acceptable for Ukraine, i.e. the first variant from the
Washington Post
report .
Selenskyj still wants to explore possibilities for peace.
The President recently announced a peace plan that he intends to present soon.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin says 99.9 percent of Russians are willing to die for their country.
The Kremlin chief estimated that in an interview just a few days ago.
