The coming days will probably be very cold in Germany.

Some federal states can also look forward to snow.

Update from December 20th:

In view of the wonderful winter days, many people in this country dream of a white Christmas.

For those romantically inclined, however, the current weather forecasts mean a punch in the stomach: The weather in Germany is about to change massively.

After prolonged snowfall and permafrost: Temperatures are rising rapidly

While the middle of the month was still marked by the danger of ice, the temperatures are currently rising rapidly and the white splendor is melting away relatively quickly.

Unfortunately, that doesn't bode well for anyone looking forward to a white Christmas.

According to weather experts, this scenario is “not an issue at all” this year.

First report from December 8, 2022:

Munich – This winter seems to be in a hurry.

Although the coldest season of the year astronomically begins on December 21, Germany is expecting severe frost and, at least in some parts of the country, long-lasting snowfall from the third weekend in Advent.

Weather: Permanent forest is moving into Germany – there is no snowstorm

"The icy cold will probably go into overtime," meteorologist Dominik Jung from

wetter.net introduces

his outlook.

In the coming week, the daytime temperatures would be “sometimes well below zero degrees”, at night “minus ten to almost minus 20 degrees” are possible.

In the south, permafrost is forecast until Christmas Eve, as shown by the example of Nuremberg.

Overall, December will probably be too cold, unlike January and February - if you trust the current weather forecasts.

There's snow too.

Mainly for the south and southeast.

On Saturday, the flakes will continue to fall south of the Danube, and the white splendor could also trickle down in Franconia and eastern Germany.

However, contrary to previous forecasts, this was "nothing dramatic, just normal snowfall".

Jung estimates the fresh snow to be five to ten centimeters.

Frosty December: Arctic air comes to Germany - but it brings little snow

also

reports that temperatures could drop to minus 20 degrees at night.

Björn Alexander, the transmitter's meteorologist, explains the extreme temperatures to be expected: "The reason for the ice-cold course setting is the polar vortex.

If it is intact and stable, it protects us in Germany from the arctic cold air masses.

At the moment, however, it has broken down into two cold centers.

And that opens the door to Europe for the arctic air.

This December can probably best be compared with that of 2012.” There, however, the wintry weather with up to minus 22.4 degrees (in Bautzen) only lasted until the middle of the month.

At Christmas, on the other hand, "rather mild air" spread, so that the month went down in history with about 0.7 degrees too warm.

In the night to Sunday, the snow is supposed to come down in the south and then increasingly towards Austria and the Czech Republic.

On Monday, meteorologist Dominik Jung from

wetter.net

only sees “normal snowfall without traffic collapse.” At the start of the week, no more than five to ten centimeters will fall, but large parts of Hesse, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia are now also affected .

"On Tuesday the cheese is almost eaten", according to Jung, then there will only be fresh snow in the extreme north-east on the Polish border.
