Alfons Schuhbeck resigns at the Platzl: After his conviction for tax evasion, the star chef also has to move out of the South Tyrolean parlours.

Schuhbeck is giving another big gala there on New Year's Eve, and in the new year he will probably have to go to prison.

Munich – It was a bad year for Alfons Schuhbeck (73), perhaps his worst ever: at the end of October, the star chef was sentenced to three years and two months in prison for tax evasion.

At the end of the year he also has to move out of his beloved South Tyrolean rooms.

But on New Year's Eve there is another real finale for Fonsi: At the end he offers a furious New Year's Eve menu at the Platzl.

"The last evening in the South Tyrolean parlors is also the last evening of the year," writes Schuhbeck on his website.

On New Year's Eve he offers an opulent five-course menu with tuna tartare, king prawn ravioli, river zander, filet mignon and chocolate dessert (see right) for 195 euros and asks his fans and companions: "Be there when an era comes to an end and a culinary chapter closes.

After 19 years, the Südtiroler Stuben am Platzl in Munich will close.

With a brilliant evening and a culinary farewell.” Alfons Schuhbeck and his team are said to be “looking forward to welcoming the new year together with you.”

But after the celebration, the farewell follows: The very next morning, Schuhbeck is no longer a tenant in the Südtiroler Stuben - his contract is expiring.

It is not yet clear who will be his successor.

"A decision has not yet been made about subsequent use," says Gerhard Reichel, Managing Director of Immobilien Bayern, which is responsible for letting.

Hot contenders for the South Tyrolean Stuben, which belong to the Free State, are the Hofbräuhaus and the State Opera, both of which have registered their own use of the premises.

According to Reichel, structural issues in particular must now be clarified, because both the State Opera and the Hofbräuhaus do not want to leave the rooms as Schuhbeck left them.

The structural evaluation needs "a certain amount of time," says Reichel.

He considers it “very likely” that there will be a vacancy in January.

For Alfons Schuhbeck this means: He has no pressure when moving out.

But with his finances.

Because it is also clear that the gala on his last evening, in addition to the emotional farewell, serves to generate income that flows into the bankruptcy estate.

A number of Schuhbeck companies have been bankrupt since the summer of 2021.

He himself will check his written tax assessment by the end of the year.

If, on the other hand, he withdraws the appeal, Schuhbeck will have to be in custody at the beginning of the year.
