On the last day of his post, the outgoing Defense Minister spoke with the Chairman of the Palestinian Authority in a phone call • "International moves against Israel such as those that the Palestinian Authority wants to promote at the UN - will also harm the Palestinian public"

Defense Minister Benny Gantz spoke today (Wednesday) with Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen. The Defense Ministry stated that Gantz stressed the importance of the relationship that has developed between the Israeli security establishment and the political echelon - and the Palestinian Authority.

Outgoing Defense Minister Gantz told Abu Mazen in the conversation: "I see the utmost importance in continuing to maintain an open channel and the security and civil coordination, which serves the security of both Palestinians and Israelis and enables economic and civil well-being."

Gantz also said: "International moves against Israel, such as those that the Palestinian Authority wants to promote at the UN, will at the end of the day harm the Palestinian public as well, and above all will raise the walls and make it more difficult in the future to advance a political process between the parties."

As I recall, during Benny Gantz's last term as Defense Minister, he met several times with Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen, and even invited him to a meeting at his home in Rosh Ha'Ain.
